During a grueling battle at the Weasley's residence, the Burrow, over the summer, Harry Potter has been killed by Lord Voldemort. Along with many other Deaths - Ginny Weasley being an example - the Burrow itself was destroyed in the fighting. The Weasley's, now homeless and without the money to buy a new house just yet, have taken up residence at Grimmauld Place, heartbroken by the loss of Harry and the family's only daughter. However, Ginny was the only member of the family that was lost, and the Order was not hit particularly hard. The most significant Order member to fall was Minerva McGonagall, although Horace Slughorn and Dedalus Diggle are also dead, and George is still sans one ear.
While the Order recuperated the the Ministry recovered, Lord Voldemort has taken over the Ministry. The war, already on it's last limbs, has ended. The Dark Lord has won. The new Minister of Magic is Auguste Yaxley. Near the end of the summer, the Order of the Phoenix, lead by Remus Lupin, are able to recuperate enough to be considered a resistance to the authority of Lord Voldemort, but the resistance is not enough to turn the outcome of the war.
Severus Snape, cleared of the accusations of killing Albus Dumbledore, has become Headmaster of Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In order to know what is going on inside the school, which is one of the few centers of resistance against the dark side, Lord Voldemort has placed two Death Eaters in teaching positions at the school - Maximilien Brossard, Potions Master and the new Head of Ravenclaw house, and Gabriella Martel, the new Head of Slytherin House and Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, although she seems to teach more of the Dark Arts than Defense. With Professors Martel and Brossard pushing it forward, corporal punishment has returned to Hogwarts, as well as the Inquisitorial Squad.
Influenced by Lord Voldemort's rule, the times grow darker. The Wizarding World is being plunged into tyranny. Only the resistance has a chance to reverse the outcome, but with people dying every day, what can the Order of the Phoenix do?
