Joining Rules

Canon Characters: You may not join as more than one main canon character. The last thing this site needs is the same person playing Voldemort and Harry, etc. If you are already playing a canon and wish to play another one, you may only play up to two minor canon characters (for example, you may play Harry and Fred Weasley, but you cannot play Harry and Voldemort.) Also, many of the characters that you might have interest in playing might be dead/edited/etc on this site, so we suggest you consult the list of canon characters before you apply for anyone.

Made-Up/Original Characters: If you are trying out for a made up, we would like you to have enough dept in history, personality and appearance for us to know that you know the character very well. No Mary-sues or Gary-sues will be accepted as well, so please do not make made ups that are a horcrux, Harry’s long-lost sister, beautiful, smarter than Hermione but not in a nerdy way, etc. No animagi are allowed unless you consult an admin first, and even if you do it is doubtable that we will give you permission. We will not accept half-veela, or any other made up that is not one hundred percent human. Also, please do not join this site and, in your first board, make your character become an animagus or get bitten by a werewolf or something. That is just immature and you'll be deleted.

Houses: Unless you are playing an original, do not enter your house when entering your character. If you are playing a made-up/original, you will be sorted. You can request a house, but it does not mean that we will give it to you. We do not do this to be mean and make sure you won't get the house you want, but so that there won't be too many of one house, and it's also quite annoying when there are only Slytherins and Gryffindors.

Auditioning: There are forms that you must follow in order to audition. If you feel that they are lacking something, you may add extra information to your audition. Fill free to contact an admin if you feel that there is another category that should be added to the forms. Do not make an account until you have been accepted by an admin.

Reserving: You can reserve a canon character for three days by posting in the 'unfinished applications' subboard. when you are done, delete the board and repost in the 'canon character adutions' subboard. If you do not repost your application within three days, your character will no longer be reserved.

Account name: If you are accepted, you must register with your characters name as your account name. If you are playing Harry, you must register with the name ‘Harry’ and make your display name ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘Harry James Potter’. You may not have the name ‘the boy-who-lived’, ‘scarhead’, or anything like that. If you do register with an annoying name along those lines, expect it to be changed and for you to either get a warning or be expelled from the site.

Avatars: If you chose to have an avatar, it must relate to your character. We would prefer if it did not have text on it, but rather some kind of picture. If your avatar does not have a picture of your character on your in character accounts expect it to be taken down. Of you chose to have an out of character account you may have any avatar you please, but there will be no pornography

Signatures: Your signatures also must have a picture of your character in it. There will be no pornography. The maximun demensions are 500x200.

Conduct

Respect: Do onto others as you would like to have done to you. It’s the golden rule, and we expect you to follow it. You must respect each other. If you are being flamed, we urge you to report it so that we may confront whoever it doing it. If you don’t like what’s going on in a thread then don’t read it. You do not have to PM someone to deliberately insult them and tell them that you have a problem with their writing. If you are in a board with someone and you feel uncomfortable then please tell them politely. If you are rude to another member, either expect to get a warning to be expelled from this site. You will not be warned when you are deleted, because we can't be bothered.

Plagiarism: is unacceptable. Firstly, if you are quoting something in an audition or a post, you must say where it is from. If you don’t, and someone finds out you’ve plagiarized a member of this site or another site, you will be deleted. No exceptions. Also, you may not take someone else’s intro (if it’s from this site or not), edit it slightly, and then call it your own. If we think it looks anything like plagiarism, we will delete you.

Role Playing Rules

Literacy: is a must. Although you will not be accepted if you lack this very important feature, we do not want you to loose it in the middle of a role play either. We understand the occasional writers block as long as it stays just that: occasional. At These Darkened Hearts, we believe in mirror posting. This means that you should at least try to mirror the length of the post before yours, unless you feel that you want to make a longer post, which is fine. If someone makes a ridiculously long post than you don’t have to mirror it, but at least try to make yours more than a paragraph. Again, the occasional writers block is understandable. All introductions must be at least four paragraphs. We expect you to have proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar when role playing. If this means that you have to take your post to Microsoft Word to spell check it there, then you should do that. We do, however, understand typos and encourage you to look over your post to avoid them. If for some reason you are unable to avoid a few typos, then this is fine. If it becomes consistently a problem to the point that your posts are unreadable then we will probably confront you about it. Chatspeak is unacceptable in character, and we discourage you to use it out of character as well. Furthermore, do not start every sentence with the same word. (Example: Bob was bored today. Bob decided to go shopping. Bob then decided to go play with Sarah.)

Boards: Your character can, obviously, be in more than one board at a time, since they are taking place at different times. This does not mean that your character can be in every board that is created. Boards can obviously have more than two characters, but if you are creating a board that is meant for only one other person to join, please tell us that it is reserved at the end of the post. In addition to that, it is terribly annoying when two people are in the middle of a role play and another person simply bounds in during their conversation. If a role play is already going on between two people, please ask them before you bring your character in; chances are they will become annoyed if you do not. Board titles may pretty much be anything from song lyrics to a simple title like ‘having a smoke.’ You may not use chatspeak for in character board titles, and we prefer if you only do it sarcastically out of character. You may decorate your text in any way that you see fit (example: [://[load.upxon.guns] ;;) but try to make sure that at least a little bit of the text is readable.

Out of Character: OOC boards were created to be used for out of character conversations. Do not have your conversations in role playing boards, please. The occasional out of character comment on the end of a post is, however, acceptable. If you plan on moving a character from one location to another, you may discuss briefly who will make the board or what board to join in whatever board you are leaving, but if it is more than about two posts each, take it to a PM. Also, you may create an out of character account for discuss things in the ooc boards if you wish.

NC-17/Sexual Conduct: Alright, everyone, we're all mature here. If you wish to have a board with anything that might be considered NC-17, this is fine. However, there might be some people that have problems with a little bit of excessive violence, cursing or sex, so we ask you to please put some kind of warning in your board title. If it becomes an NC-17 board in the middle of a role play, ask an admin to change the board title for you or edit it yourself. If you have a problem with NC-17 boards, simply do not read them. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.

Double Posting: is also unacceptable. If someone has not replied to your post than contact them; there is probably a reason. They might have even seen your post, so do not go crazy. You may not post it again, though. Doing anything like that is just annoying and distracting, as well as obnoxious. If no one is replying to your thread, you may not post it again it maybe two months after it was originally posted. Someone might want to reply to it eventually, so keep it up.

Deletions: You will not be warned before you are deleted. We can’t be bothered. If you have any questions concerning your deletion, feel free to ask them on your audition board. People who are not active for a month will be deleted. If you are going away, you must contact someone to tell them. Breaking any of the rules will get you deleted. That’s completely obvious.

Your Admins

Raven & Sami are your two main admins and are the two wonderful ladies who created this site. Do not be afraid to contact us about problems or suggestions. We promise that we won’t bite. If you are being harassed than we will put a stop to it, and if you have anything that will make this board better than we will take your suggestions into consideration.
